Congratulations to the cross country team at TAPPS State Cross Country!
Of the 40 meets I have attended or been a part of in the past 5 years that one was the toughest! There was no way to plan for it, and yet the kids were such troupers. They had to run in over 20 mud pits with water up to their knees in most places. We had to duck tape their cleats so the mud wouldn't suck them off as they ran. We knew their times weren't going to be good. Here is a run-down of each athlete's performance:
Elisan Wagner, freshman, has been a great runner this year. Her first year in cross country, she medaled in 4 meets which is amazing. At state, our goal was the top half. She ran against 128 girls placing 41st. Congratulate her on a great season.
Bekah Fadler, junior, became our girls team captain. This is Bekah's third year to run cross country and she has been a terrific support for our team. Our goal was to have placed in the top 100. She ran against 128 state athletes and placed 78th. Thank you for being a good "servant leader" Bekah.
This was Emil Brenenstuhl's second year to run cross country. He is a junior. He gained his first medal at Hamilton this year and we are all very proud of him. Emil probably had the toughest time on the state course because of the mud and crowds. The boys ran against 131 runners. Again our goal was for Emil to place in the top 100 of state athletes. Emil placed 90th after being tripped and falling in a really ugly puddle. Thank you Emil for going the distance and finishing the race. It was tough!
Adam Plunk has run cross country for 5 years. He has competed in 40 5K's and has medaled in 25. He is the boys team captain. Our goal was a return to the medal podium for state. He was seeded 6th in state. We are proud to announce the he medaled 4th in state out of 131 runners. Congratulations to Adam for a such a successful cross country season and thank you for your hard work.
Thank you Round Rock Christian Academy for your support of these athletes. To those fans that came to watch the kids run, you are the best. Your Round Rock Christian Academy Cross Country Team represented your school well this year.
Congratulations to our cross-country athletes who competed at the State Meet on October 25, 2014 in Waco. Adam Plunk placed 7th overall to put him on the medal podium. Emil Brenenstuhl and Bekah Fadler also had a great meet. Way to go Crusaders!
Round Rock Christian Academy began the Cross Country team 3 years ago and it has grown over the years from one runner to 5 runners in 2014. In 2014, a Junior High team was formed adding several runners. The HS team has sent several runners to the TAPPS State Meet in October running at Baylor University each year.
The RRCA Cross Country team competed on October 4 at Old Settlers Park in the McNeil Invitational. Two middle school students were in the race--Lydia Pergande and Gabe Graf. Lydia ran 15:38.25 winning 41st place out of 150 girls, beating her best time by 39 seconds. Gabe Graf ran 14:18.66 winning 41st place out of 150 boys, surpassing his best time by one minute.
In the high school competition, Bekah Fadler ran and completed her race against 466 JV girls with a time of 19:35.34, despite an injury. Robbie Mixer completed a 5K against 470 boys with a time of 24:34.35. Emil Brenenstuhl beat his best time from the previous meet at 22:56.42. Adam Plunk medaled 4th out of 470 JV boys beating his own personal record and the RRCA record for the 5K with a time of 17:56.93.
The high school cross-country team competed at the Allen Academy Invitational in College Station. Two junior high students also joined them for this meet and overall the team had some great results. The course was a little muddy but these athletes did a great job and had a contingent of parents cheering them on!
The results for this meet were:
Junior High Division:
Lydia Pergande - 7th place (17:05.03), Medal
Gabe Graff - 14th place (15:26.03), Medal
